Sometimes change is inevitable. What worked when your custody or child support order was entered, may no longer be working for your family. Maybe your child’s schedule has changed. Or you have accepted a new job. Whatever the circumstances, your family’s life is not the same.
If you would like to make changes to your custody, visitation, or child support order, we first recommend we try to work out a modification agreement with your child’s other parent first. This is better for several reasons – you know what is best for your family, there is less turmoil for your children, and it is more cost effective.
If you and the other parent cannot reach an agreement, we can file a modification order with the Family Court in South Carolina. You will need to show a substantial change in circumstances and the Court may issue a modification.
Whichever route you decide, we will advocate for your situation. On the flip side, we will also tell you upfront if we do not believe a child support or custody modification will be approved.
